"to enjoy oneself doing something"

Hi all,

How do you say "to enjoy (oneself) doing something" and its opposite "to get bored doing something"?

For example: "I enjoy listening to music"; "I got bored reading this long report".

Thanks,

Carole

Gustar is used a lot for "enjoy". Me gusta escuchar la música - I enjoy listening to music..
Aburrirse = to get bored. Me aburro hacer la tarea - I get bored doing homework.

"Escuchar", not "escuchando". - lazarus1907, Nov 29, 2010
"escuchando" is a "gerundio"/participle. It cannot be used as a noun. - samdie, Nov 29, 2010

The verbs disfrutar and divertirse are often used when talking about enjoying yourself

The verb abburirse is the verb to become bored

Here are some examples to show you how these verbs can be used / are used in Spanish:

Por ejemplos:

Disfrutar:= to enjoy

1 Disfruto escuchando música = I enjoy listening to music

2 Disfrutamos mucho con la película = We really enjoyed the film

3 Espero que hayan disfrutado de la travesía = I hope you have enjoyed the crossing( have had a pleasant crossing)

Divertirse:= to enjoy oneself

1 Fue una fiesta muy divirtida = It was a very enjoyable party

2 Es un tipo muy divertido = He is a very entertaning guy, he is really fun to be with

Aburrirse = To become bored

1 Nunca me había aburrido tanto = I have never been so bored

2 Me aburrí leyendo este largo informe = I got bored reading this long report.

All examples (apart from disfrutar 1 and aburrirse 2) are by courtsey of the Oxford Spanish Dictionary 3rd Edition

I hope this helps grin
