"What do you mean by......?"

"What do you mean by......?"

Hello...

May I know how to say "What do you mean by.........?" in Spanish?

For example, 'what do you mean by nothing?' or 'what do you mean you don't know?'...

Thanks.

I'm not exactly sure if this is what you mean but:

¿Qué significa(s) ....?

or

¿Qué quiere(s) decir ...?

Is it true that you can also say: "Cómo que ______?" In my Spanish book, it was used something like:

  • It just broke, Mom. --Se rompió, Mamá.
  • What do you mean "it just broke"? -- Cómo que se rompió?

If I have it wrong, please correct me smile

'what do you mean by nothing?' or 'what do you mean you don't know?

'what do you mean by "nothing"?' or 'what do you mean? "You don't know"'?

The intent of your question is not all that hard to figure out but additional punctuation would be helpful.
