My assignment was to write 5 paragraphs, totaling 350 characters, about five famous people I would hope to meet and have over for dinner. I am supposed to use the conditional form of each verb because I am uncertain that I will meet these people in the future. I would like any suggestions, no matter how big or small. I am concerned mainly about my grammar and conditional verb use. Thank you so much.

Me gustaría preguntarle cómo se siente sobre -- / qué opina sobre ("cómo se siente sounds a bit akward) los problemas del mundo actual y cómo la actual administración presidencial se está realizando (it is impersonal: you need "se"; besides, it'd be much common to put the verb before the subject in this case)*. Me gustaría pedirle que cantara / cantase (as Q said: subjunctive and past tense because of conditional) una de su canciones.

  2. En segundo lugar, me gustaría invitar a Lewis Hamilton. Yo le hablaría (a Lewis Hamilton) sobre su carrera en la Fórmula 1 (I don't think you need the inverted commas and we usually use the article before the name). Le pediría (as Q said, you are confusing "preguntar" and "pedir". I don't know what's the rule non-natives learn, but if I had to explain it, I'd say you use "preguntar" when you have a specific question and want to know an answer and "pedir" when you want to get a reaction on the other person. In this case, besides, when you ask for advice, you don't "preguntas un consejo", but you "pides un consejo") a Lewis que me diera consejos para ("al" would mean you want him to give you some advice when you are already there, not before) acercarse a las esquinas (I think you mean "curvas") en las pistas de carreras.

Le preguntaría a Kaz sobre las diferentes carreras técnicas y se discuten (that's present tense, impersonal; I guess you mean "y discutiríamos") la mejor manera de pasar a un vehículo (overtake) ("pasar" is ok; you can also say "adelantar" and "rebasar"). Le preguntaría a Kaz lo que es el curso de carreras favorito (I don't think "curso de carreras" makes any sense; I think you mean "circuito" (racecourse, right?): le preguntaría a Kaz cuál es su circuito favorito) y le diría -- por supuesto cuál prefiero.

  4. En cuarto lugar, me gustaría invitar a Barack Obama a hablar (con él) (you don't need to say "con él", because inviting him implies that) acerca de los problemas que afectan a nuestra nación. Me hablaría sobre la crisis financiera y se preguntan (that's present tense, impersonal; I guess you mean "y le preguntaría") cómo se espera para arreglarlo (that's means he is waiting to solve it... I guess you meant "cómo espera arreglarlo").

Thank you so much for this! I've read over it and you caught a lot of mistakes. The last sentence of number 4 is supposed to mean "I would ask him to make a speech that would address my concerns about important issues." It does sound a bit confusing. - Harman_M, Nov 28, 2010
I've been updating my text, I'll edit my original post to reflect the changes soon. - Harman_M, Nov 28, 2010
Oh, now I think I get it: Le pediría que hiciera / preparara / diera un discurso para abordar / que abordase / tratase temas importantes que me preocupan (I've changed the order of the last words so that they sound a bit more natural) - LoaEtayo, Nov 29, 2010

Towards the end you start confusing preguntar and pedir.

Also pedir que...is usually followed by the subjunctive. (There is doubt as to whether it will actually happen).

Not a native. Don't take any of this seriously without confirmation.

Ok, so I replace pediria with preguntaria? (with the accents on the i, of course) The sobre de are supposed to mean "about the." Like for the last one: "I would like to ask how he feels about the issues of the world." - Harman_M, Nov 28, 2010
Wait for a native tells you if sobre or sobre de express "about the" - 0074b507, Nov 28, 2010
Alright, thank you for the help. - Harman_M, Nov 28, 2010

I've updated the original post with some changes. Does anyone have any other corrections that I could make? Thank you in advance.

Ah, so I should be using sobre or de, not a combination of the two.

What do I know? It just looked awkward to me. - 0074b507, Nov 28, 2010
Well, I am not too sure either. - Harman_M, Nov 28, 2010
I can think of some examples where you have to use both, "sobre de" (tengo dudas sobre de qué está hecho el pan), but the general rule (and the one you should follow) is that it is incorrect: check JB's explanation in Q's link - LoaEtayo, Nov 28, 2010
