Very annoying, grrrrrrrrr

schedule1 /'sked?u:l/ ||/'?edju:l/ sustantivo

So which pronunciation should I pick for better understanding? This is completely different!!!

Actually, I did think it was shedjul, and then I was often corrected ...so I changed over to skedjul, so now...which one is it, grrrrrrrr

Let's see , if you hear shedjul....would you think in the States, hey, foreigner speaking! ?

I had never really given it a second thought, I was corrected so I accepted the correction, which proves, don't trust nativesraspberry

(kidding!!!!)

shedule = UK

skedule = US

Say shedule in the US, and—as long as you have a British accent—it will not stand out: it will get counted as part of your accent. Now, if that's the only word you say with a British accent, we Americans might find it strange.

Isn't that standard practice? My Spanish and German friends speak better English than a lot of the locals, who have terrible grammar and colloquialisms (except me, of course grin)

Now that I've read this, I'm sitting here saying it both ways and I can't think which way I say it. LOL I think I would say 'shedjul', but if I heard 'skedjul' it wouldn't sound too out of place.

My guess, for what it's worth, is that you should go with shedule,

Actually I asked Jenny, and she said:

I say /skedjule/..LOL

So I guess problem solved.

Well, no one in the USA says shedule. We all say skedule. I really can't speak for how it comes across to British people. Wait for some UKers because you should say it in the way most consistent with the British accent. - webdunce, Nov 26, 2010
My guess, for what it's worth, is that you should go with shedule, but, again, you will want confirmation from some British people. I would think it was Americans "correcting" you, right? - webdunce, Nov 26, 2010
Use the form which is most used. I am a native speaker from the U.S. and when I speak Spanish, I frequently adjust the way I speak in consideration of the people to whom I am speaking. This might be considered extreme, but I consider it a challenge. - Beatrice-Codder, Nov 26, 2010
