I never know whether a word needs a tilda and I was wondering if their is a rule I can memorize to make it easier to know.

Welcome to the forum. It's spelled tilde, by the way, and the rules on when to use them are pretty easy. Lesson 4.10 goes over this in good detail. Don't let all the names of the flowers scare you off.
