"Quiero que ponerlo acá.
I was intending to say a non-subjunctive statement but accidentally uttered "Quiero que" and immediately switched back to indicative saying in its entirety "Quiero que ponerlo acá." I remembered from some grammar books that this is correct but my Mexican officemate remarked it didn't make sense and I should omit the "que". Is it?

querer que+conjugated verb only makes sense if the subject of each verb is a different person.
(él) quiere que (yo) venga a la fiesta.
...
If the subject of the verbs is the same person you use querer+infinitive
(Yo) quiero (yo) venir a la fiesta
----->
Quiero ponerla acá
or --->
Quiero que la pongas acá
Your Mexican friend is quite right. "Quiero que ponerlo acá." sounds just as bad as saying "I want that I put it here." does in English. I want to + infinitive (do something).
"Quiero que ..." I want that something be done by (somebody else or by an unspecified agent)
yeah he is right, it doesn't make sense with the "que" there. But what are you trying to say? "I want to put it here?" or "I want you to put in here?"
