Welcome to the forum. This question has been asked quite a bit. If you do a search on cross country here at the forum you'll find a bunch of threads.
Depends. When you use it in a sentence not in relation to the sport, you translate it as 'campo a través', but at least in Spain when they talk about the sport, it's typical to call it 'cross', ie: "Estaba en el equipo de 'cross' ".
