"Es lo de siempre." I like your translation of "It´s the same old thing as always."

You can also say "Es el mismo cuento de siempre," Es la misma historia de siempre," and when it is really bothersome to you, "Es la misma fregada de siempre," "Es la misma cochinada de siempre," "Es la misma chingadera de siempre" (Mexican slang), etc.

Also, "lo habitual" / "lo de costumbre"

I imagine it as a response to, for example -

¿Qué hay de nuevo?

Nada....lo de siempre....

Same old thing/s sounds good to me.

Maybe it can be:

el cuento eterno

although it kind of means the old story..

certainly, but I am thinking, lo de siempre, is almost idiomatic... if I am catching it by the right side. - jeezzle, Nov 21, 2010
Yes, I think that's a better approach than my answer actually, as galsally says - lagartijaverde, Nov 21, 2010
