Para carries the meaning of movement towards, recipient, destination etc.
Por carries the meaning of cause or reason.
El regalo es para ti. The present is for you. (ie. the person you are speaking to is going to get the present).
Lloro por ti. I'm crying for you. (because of you, you're the reason I'm crying)
I hope that helps ![]()
I think es para ti should be it's for you
and es por ti - it's because of you.
We also have an interesting reference article on this.
Ok kids let's take two examples (one is in Italian). Il Gladiatore, by Pavoratti. Il Gladiatore
Morir por tí, es mi destino. To die for (because) of you, is my destiny. OR is it for your enjoyment? Because of you, for you, for your enjoyment.
Second example:
Andrea Bocelli in Spanish. Time to say goodbye = volar por tí.
Time to say goodbye Flying because of you, flying because you love me? Flying to get to you? My flight caused by your faith in me? Por = because. An interesting thought here.
Gracias.
Let me give you two examples - Este vino es para tí. ( This wine is for you.)
Hazlo por mí. (Do it for me).
Basically the difference between the usage of por y para is pretty complicated and will be mastered only eventually by any learner.
If it at all helps : para is used to denote finalidad; para que sirve una cosa(for example : este libro es para niños) and por to denote something done by someone (la cena fue preparado por mi madre) or to denote the sense of for something(voy por leche: I'm going to buy/for milk)
There I have tried!! ![]()
