Hi,

In Spanish you have two meanings for the subject pronoun you:

  • Tu : you use that form when your talking with friends family members or people who are younger than you.
  • Usted : you use this form if you are talking to people who are older than you or people that you don't know or simply if you want to show respect to someone.

  • Endings (Conjugations in present):-

  • TU: AR verbs---{ AS } , ER & IR verbs---{ES}

  • Usted: AR verbs---{A} , ER & IR verbs---{E} (Conjugated the same way as él - ella )

Hablar ends in AR :-

Hablas: means = You talk ( used with friends....etc )

Same way goes with you (plural) it has two forms in Spanish :-

  • TU ( plural ) vosotros/vosotras: AR verbs---{ áis } , ER---{ éis } , IR verbs----{ ís }
  • ustedes : Congugated the same way as Ellos & Ellas.

Habláis : You plural speak ( with friends..etc)

I hope this helps smile

I understand what you mean with 'tú (plural)', but there is no such thing. The second person plural pronoun is 'vosotros/vosotras' - bill1111, Nov 20, 2010

"Hablais means you all speak." from a responder.

this is incorrect it is the informal form used in Castillian spanish and means "you" just the same as "hablas"

"Hablais" (vosotros) is plural while "hablas" (tú) is singular. - samdie, Nov 20, 2010

hablas and hablais are both familiar forms meaning you talk, but hablas is used mostly in central and south america and hablais is castillian spanish used mostly in Spain.

Hola Heathermaria,

Hablas means 'you speak', but it is familiar (or with friends)

Habla can mean he/she speaks, or it can be 'you speak' but formal.

Hablais means you all speak.
