Translation: Choppy

I am trying to tell someone that the text-to-speech feature on the Kindle is choppy, meaning that the speech is not fluid. The translator is providing picado as the answer, but that seems to be in reference to water. Would it also apply in this case? I've tried to find other words, but abrupt, staccato, and all of the others I've thought of haven't been quite what I'm looking for.
