Question on how to translate destroyed correctly

The phrase is:
Muchos documentos de identificación fueron "destroyed" en la guerra.
So my question is: would it be correct to use the adjective destruido in this sentence? or is there a better adjective?

You should use destruidos because you are referring to documentos.
