I think alamo is poplar, alamosa, full of poplars

It means a place with many aspen trees...Oops I thought it was aspens but I guess its cotton woods!

I've seen street names like this, plus "Alameda" when I lived in Los Angeles. I think it also means the same as Alamosa.
