Puso una litera en el cuarto de los niños y siempre luchan por la cama alta. - I put a bunk bed in the children's room and they always fight for the top bed.
Shouldn't that be puse for I put...? Or translated to he/she put...?

I was just about to post the same thing. You're right. Puso is third person preterite.
