Do you refer to 25% of the half, right? If that is the case you can say: "Aproximadamente la mitad de la población de Perú vive en la pobreza. De esta, un 25 porciento se encuentra en situación de pobreza extrema".

I would use % and not "porciento".

Saludos : )

yes you got it all right. I've been advised though to use the "porciento" in very formal texts. Do you think the standard is different in Spanish? - LovisaNordqvist, Nov 18, 2010
I would say that % is more common, specially in cientific texts and papers. But both are perfectly fine. - TaniaSalazar, Nov 18, 2010

so would this be correct?:

"Aproximadamente la mitad de la población de Perú vive en la pobreza y 25 porcientos de ello vive en la pobreza extrema."

Thank's for the help :D
