How is the verb mantenerse conjugated? I'd like to translate "He held", as in "He held his ground."

since it has -tener at the end, you conjugate it like the verb tener (to have)
yo mantengo
tu mantienes
el mantiene
nosotros mantenemos
ellos mantienen

I wonder if mantuvo su posición is how you would say that. I wonder if posición could be used for he held his ground.
