How do you say "Healthcare system" ?
Am writing an essay on the Peruvian the maternal mortality in Peru and am not sure how to translate healthcare system. Would it be correct to say el sistema de la atención sanitaria? Or is it la instutición?
Could someone please help me?

Interesting, I am currently working on an assignment about underage mothers and I've translated healthcare as la atención sanitaria as well.(but we might have used the same sources). Prompted by your question, I have just looked it up in my Spanish - Spanish dictionary and asistencia sanitaria seems to be the better translation so I am thinking of using this term.
So I would try el sistema de asistencia sanitaria
I hope I haven't muddied the waters ! Perhaps a native speaker can clarify this......
Sistema de salud.
I might be wrong but I think Ive heard "el sistema de salubridad" but don't quote me on it..
El centro de salud is the health centre, of course it is in a building but it differs from a hospital, in my health centre you go to see a doctor or a nurse (I personally had an appoinment with a nurse yesterday to take my blood pressure) they also take blood samples from you and a host of other things pertaining to your health whereas you go to hospital to be treated for injuries and have surgery etc.
Well I'm talking about the actual governmental institution. So you guys think el sistema de salud is right?
"El centro de salud" refers to the building. Voy al centro de salud = I go to the hospital (maybe hospital isn't the best word, but you know what I mean).
Well I am in spain and I go to "El centro de salud" the health centre now and then so you can't be far off the correct term. I think I have seen oficina de bienestar but I think that means wellfare office.
I'd agree with Tania Sistema de salud sounds much more better & when I wrote Healthcare system in Spanish on Google search all results in Spanish used Sistema de salud. ![]()
