You always have to put yourself after you've mentioned all the other members on the sentence..

Mi hermano y yo

Mi familia y yo

Juan, Pedro, María y yo

It's incorrect to say "yo" first

In Spanish we always say to the Children who are learning this rule: "El burro siempre va de último" - The donkey always goes last.

I don't now the rule exactly, but it may parallel the English structure where you mention the other party before you mention yourself ( "My family and I"[correct]... rather than "Me and my family" [incorrect]). "Yo y mi familia" sounds weird to me. I have often heard however, "mi familia y yo". I would go with the second option.
