"go through"

Question

Hey, I'd like to know how to translate "go through" in this context:

"I got a bunch of old clothes together so you can go through them and see if you want any of them." That's not revisar, right?

In a negative sense, as in "My mother went through my room," that's esculcar or rebuscar, right?

But with email and stuff, it's revisar, correct?

I would use revisar in every case.

Mi madre revisó la habitación. Revisé el correo. Revisé el ropero para ver que ropas tenía.

rebuscar

v. rummage, make a thorough search, look for diligently = comb through, fumble through, rummage (among/through), grub around,

I have never used the verb esculcar, but as you said it means :

1. tr. Espiar, inquirir, averiguar con diligencia y cuidado.

2. tr. Registrar para buscar algo oculto.

I would use revisar for the clothes and rebuscar for the room. I'm not sure what the context for the email is
