Question about the personal "a"

Okay, I will just get straight to the question....hahah :D

I want to know the reason why in Spanish when you are saying that you love a specific person (like a movie star or whatever) that you don't say: Me encanta a ______(whatever person)

My friend from Colombia said that you would just say: Me encanta _____(whatever person)

no "a"...

So I'm just wondering why this is?

¡Gracias por la ayuda!

:D

The personal a is used with direct objects that are people. In your sentence, "Me encanta X.", "X" is the subject and "me" is an indirect object. There is no direct object, hence no personal a.

encantar is often referred to as a gustar-like verb. - 0074b507, Nov 12, 2010
