Road sign "Control de galibo"
I often see this sign when driving in Andalucia, but noone seems to know what it means. Even the locals seem to take it for granted, without knowing its significance. If someone could enlighten me I would be very grateful. The only translation for the word "gálibo" I can find is "model of a ship" and that certainly does not fit the context.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. I found a few other people who had the same question, and several informative answers are posted here, here, and here. Apparently, it indicates a checkpoint at which it is made sure that the vehicles are the right size to go under bridges or into tunnels. It is somewhat mysterious that the locals would have no idea what it meant, though, if every time the sign appeared it was accompanied by such a checkpoint. Update: Oh, solved the mystery. It's not a pull-off style checkpoint so much as a sensor, so if your vehicle is the right size I suppose it makes sense that you wouldn't notice it.
