no,then it must be dealing with demonstrative pronouns - mediterrunio, Nov 11, 2010
Here they are demonstrative adjectives, not pronouns. This book, those papers, etc. - 0074b507, Nov 12, 2010

You are doing an assignment about this/that and these/those.

Este / esta / esto = this

Estos / estas = these

Ese / esa / eso = that

Esos / esas = those

The ones ending in -e are masculine singular. The ones ending in -a are feminine singular. The ones ending in -o are neuter singular.

The ones ending in -os are masculine OR neuter plural. The ones ending in -as are feminine plural.

As an example, for your first item, the answer would be...

Este libro de anatomía que está aquí es interesante.

Because the book is "aquí" (here), we would use "this book" instead of "that book." (Typically, we use this/these for things that are nearby and that/those for things that are far from us). So, we know we need the Spanish word for "this," and our choices are este, esta, and esto. El libro is masculine and singular; therefore, este is correct.

Hope that helps.

All the book wants you to do is find the corrrect word to complete the sentence. If you have a word box to choose from, look up the meaning of the words, and then choose them based on which one fits. If you don't have a word box, try to translate the sentence here..... and then think of a word to fit and translate that word to spanish and write it down.

My first thought was a definite article too, but as I can see now you have to use the demonstrative:

For example:

esos papeles que están allí...

este libro que está aquí

esos etc + allí

estos ect + aquí

You are supposed to put the correct articles in the sentence. In your first example it would be El libro de anatomía...

All those sentences are missing a definite article (el, la, los, las). It is a pointless exercise if you are not familiar with their usage in Spanish, if you ask me. These types of questions are hard (even for natives) and accomplish nothing. Pretty sad!
