what is the difference between "a la" and "a las" in spanish?

what sentences would you use "a la" in and what sentences would you use "a las" in. What is the difference between these two?

a la is when you are talking about something that is singular and feminine
a las is when you are talking about something that is plural and feminine

Me marché a casa a la una.(1AM) Me marché a casa a las dos.(2AM)
Dije a la policia que el culpable no fuí yo.(policia= Scotland Yard) Dije a las policias(= mujeres policias) que el culpable no fuí yo.( policias=policewomen)
