Sentence help using "this"

So i have this spanish project...I created my painting and now i have to describe it and why i made it. I am writing one of my sentences: This is a painting that i created based on the style of Velasquez. Do I use este or esta for the word "this" I know the painting is feminine but i feel like i heard my teacher say este es una pintura. So which one do I use?

it should be esta. you are right to think that it is based on the femininity/masculinity of the word.
esta obra, esta pintura, este dibujo.. etc
