I believe it needs to be, "yo hablé SOBRE Mexico en la clase." But good job otherwise!

se puede decir : hable de Mexico, hable acerca de Mexico , Hable de Mexico. Hable sobre Mexico. etc. etc. - muchas maneras para expresar la misma idea.

And we don't use subject pronouns here, so it would be, "Hablé sobre México en la clase." (and don't forget the tilde in México)

Use 'hablar de' for to talk about. 'Hablar por' would mean something like 'to talk by phone' (hablar por telefono)
