I've just come across this phrase, but I'm not sure what it means, my guess is: to sweep under the carpet.

Am I right?

it´s used when you want to say that something is not properly handled or is not dealt with, or causes embarrasment.

to sweep under the carpet / under the rug is a perfect (almost literal) equivalent.

En vez de buscar una solución, meten el asunto debajo de la alfombra.
