'Sus placas son expirar.' Is this the correct way to say your license plates are expired?

What was edited? I removed the double quote marks around the phrase to make the question header more compatible with MS Explorer. - Moe, Nov 3, 2010

In this case, you would use "caducar".

In Spanish, your sentence would be:

~Sus/Tus placas han caducados. (Your license plates have expired)

or

~Sus/Tus placas están caducados. (Your license plates are expired)

Thanks! Do you know if 'caducar' regularly understood in Northern Mexico? - watermonitor, Nov 3, 2010
The dictionary usually specifies if the word is only used in a specific region/country. It said nothing for 'caducar', so you should be able to use it anywhere and be understood, even in northern Mexico. - MeEncantanCarasSonrisas, Nov 3, 2010

Hola:

Puedes usar "están vencidas" o "se han vencido"...

Not in many countries! Expirado is fine for food, but not for plates. - lazarus1907, Nov 3, 2010
