Spanish essay phrases...

Question

I would appreciate any key phrases that can be used in a Spanish essay. The idea is to help me and others like me who need good ways of perhaps opening an essay/delving deeper into topics.

Entiendo que algunas frases en español no corresponden exactamente con sus equivalentes de inglés, por ejemplo, ' A mi modo de ver', esta significa en inglés, 'From my point of view'.

I know of other simplistic discourse markers which may be used in an essay, such as 'además de' and 'sin embargo'.

But are there any 'outside the box' (or so to speak) phrases that could prove to be vital in an essay?

Great question!

A basic phrase that I tried to teach beginning students was "por eso" (or any equivalent for "therefore").

More advanced phrases - they might involve subjunctive depending on context - would be "a pesar de/a pesar de que (in spite of) and "con tal de que (provided that).

Here are a few of my favorites.

desde mi punta de vista - from my point of view, a pesar de - in spite of, despite, que yo sepa - as far as I know, al contrario - on the contrary, en cambio - on the other hand, instead, finalmente, al final -finally, in the end, por último - last of all, por lo tanto - therefore, por eso - for that reason, there fore, por otro lado - on the other hand, además, es más - besides, En conclusion - in conclusion, Para concluir - to conclude, desde entonces - from then on, since then, ya que - since, given that

darse de bruces

Here's the passage "los personajes suelen darse de bruces con un mundo que no es como les habi?an explicado"

(In these books) the characters often come face to face with a world which is not as it has been explained/depicted/has been described
