A little research online should give you your answer..."tocarse el gordo" means "to win the jackpot". In Spain "el gordo" refers to the big win in the lottery.

This is most likely the correct interpretation. Nevertheless, I keep thinking of weird alternatives: "What would you do if the Fat Man touched you?" Creeeeepeeee!! - Gekkosan, Nov 2, 2010

Good answer :) En Perú se puede decir "ganarse el gordo" pero nunca había escuchado "tocar(se) el gordo". :) - amy_moreno, Nov 2, 2010
Gekko-kun, on occasion (such as this) literal translations can be very funny. - samdie, Nov 2, 2010

Hello Persa, welcome to the Forum. For future reference please note that correct spelling, grammar and capitalization of words are mandatory in this Forum.

You can obtain a literal translation to what you wrote using an online translator, like the one we have available here at the top of the page.

To know exactly what it means in this case, however, you should provide some more context.

One possible guess, for example, is that one person is talking to another one who is, perhaps, a bit chubby; a little fat. The first person may be asking the fat one: what would happen if I touch your "love handle"? (the roll that forms around the waist ). This is not as terrible in many Hispanic cultures as it may seem in the US or other countries.

But again, hard to tell without context.

1 - In Argentina, you have el gordo de Navidad and el gordo de Año Nuevo which are special lottery prizes, so if te toca el gordo, means if you win the Christmas´s or New year´s lottery.

2 - Si me tocara el gordo, that is if the fat guy touches me, I´ll punch him in the jaw.

3 - Si me tocaras el gordo, if you touch me the fat one, well, we´ll see what happens because I´m not sure what are you talking about..

4 - For tocarse el gordo. That´s a very unlikely phrase in Spanish. Si el gordo se tocara => if the fat guy touches himself sick

Is "el gordo" a game, or perhaps a lottery of some sort? The rest is "what would you do ("harías " - with tilde) if you play (tocarás" - also with tilde, and "s" to keep with the same tense as "harías") the "gordo". Someone else will know this, I'm sure.

perdone! yo pienso que no sea correcto! - persa, Nov 2, 2010
"el gordo" is a common way of referring to "the grand prize" (of a lottery). - samdie, Nov 2, 2010
So if I substitute "win" for "play", based on mediterrunio's #1, and add in "the lottery", would I be correct? - DR1960, Nov 2, 2010
