"By 1772, when the first Europeans arrived, it was all over" yo pienso que seria: "En 1772 cuando los europeos llegaron por primera vez, todo habia terminado", pero no me agrada como queda ese (it was all over) Thanks

Estás en lo cierto. All over = todo había termindo (especialmente una guerra o algunas luchas.... una cosa parecida.)

I would say ............. se acabó todo. (pretérito)

"todo había terminado" indicates that everything had finished before the Europeans arrived.

isn't that what the first sentence says? It was all over before they got there? - jeezzle, Oct 31, 2010
By the time the first Euros arrived, it was already all over. That is the feeling I got from it. - jeezzle, Oct 31, 2010
