I don't think so, Kiwi.

Your "especular image" is your "mirror image", your reflection in the mirror, an image that is very similar to you, almost identical.

Then, the sentence can mean "in many aspects, they were like two peas in a pod"

An example of mirror images are our hands. One is the reflection of the other one, but they are not identical, they are reversed. This phenomenon is also known as chirality.

Do you think it should be: espectacularmente; spectacularly?

That crossed my mind too. I may just go with that. Thanks! - mamandetrois, Oct 31, 2010
