Hola no se que poner en lugar de cut off. Segun el contexto podria ir "privados de"? Gracias

Precisamente... "cut off", tiene ese sentido de "privar, aislar, cortar".
en tu oración "Así que la población fue privada de la importante fuente proteica de los peces de aguas profundas"
