This is one of some questions I had to answer. But I am not sure if my writing is ok. Can somebody have a look at it? Thanks

  1. Do you think the author of the text is critical of the people’s activities? The author is critical of the people’s activities, because he says that the tragic collapse of the first inhabitants was in the third and final period. He also mentions deforestation (“the destruction of a large number of trees”) in order to build statues and canoes left people without food or resources to make them grow. This was because the population grew fast so the civilization collapsed. Even he doesn’t know exactly when all this started, he says that the first people who lived there didn’t take care of the natural resources, so they were responsible in part of the ecological disaster.

This is very good, I just made a few changes to make it flow a little bit more naturally. There were a few parts where I wasn't exactly sure what you were referring to, so I added a question mark, it's your choice whether to take those suggestions. Overall, bravo! Very eloquent.

Do you think the author of the text is critical of the people’s activities? The author is critical of the people’s activities (no comma needed here) because he says that the tragic collapse of the first inhabitants occurred in the third and final (settlement?) period. He also mentions that deforestation (“the destruction of a large number of trees”) in order to build statues and canoes left people without food or resources to make them (the society? The trees?) grow. This was because the population grew so fast that the civilization collapsed. Even the author doesn’t know exactly when all of this started. (new sentence) He says that the first people who lived there didn’t take care of the natural resources, so they were responsible in part for the ecological disaster.

thanks a lot!!! here is th last one. 4. Why does the author entitle this text ‘A terrible warning’? - jortosar, Oct 30, 2010
The author entitles the text “A terrible warning” because he gives an example of what would happen to the earth when there were ecological disasters, deforestation which brings hunger and no room for people. - jortosar, Oct 30, 2010
Also very good. I would say "what would happen to the earth *if* there were ecological disasters, *such as* deforestation, which brings hunger and fewer places for people to live". (if implying that it may or may not happen). - athegr8, Oct 30, 2010
Or you could also say "...if an ecological disaster occurred, such as deforestation, which..." (that is how I would say it). Good job! - athegr8, Oct 30, 2010
