words for haircut

The dictionary here says that the Spanish for haircut is corte de pelo. There is a barbershop near my house that is in a Spanish speaking neighborhood and a sign inside says recorte. My Spanish speaking friends, who are mostly Cuban and Puerto Rican, all tell me that the word for haircut is recorte. Is recorte used in some regions instead of corte de pelo?

Bear in mind that the dot is used instead of the comma in most Spanish speaking countries. 4 thousand of anything sounds like a lot. - KevinB, Oct 29, 2010
lol, 4000 pennies=$40. My last cut was $55! It was dreadful too. - Brynleigh, Oct 29, 2010
When I lived in Venezuela in the 1970's, the Bolivar was worth about 25 cents U.S. Things were more expensive there, but the B. was pretty stable. Then it went through intense inflation. - KevinB, Oct 29, 2010
Chaves lopped 3 decimal places off the currency and renamed it the Bolivar Fuerte. As of yesterday the B.F. is now worth 25 cents U.S. And inflation is running at around 200% per year. - KevinB, Oct 29, 2010

Hola:

En algunas partes también se puede usar el verbo "peluquear".

Hope this helps.

Argentina: corte de pelo / corte de cabello

Anyway, recorte seems to describe haircut very well, because you cut just a little of it. However, I would say recorte is hair trimming.

I've always heard/used corte de pelo, but a book I'm reading (which sounds like it was translated in Spain from the vocabulary) uses recorte. It must be regional.
