"Relativo" as a false friend?

Holas!

I've got a couple of dictionaries specially written for Latin American countries, and none of them say so, and in Spain that makes no sense. Therefore, I reckon your teacher blundered big time.

I don't think it is a false friend, because it means "relative" as in "that is relative to what i am talking about". Relative = related, it is the same in English, but we also use it to mean "parientes". Honestly I have never heard it that way in Spanish, maybe a native can say if "relativos" can mean "parientes".

- lazarus1907, Oct 28, 2010
precisely, to use it instead of pariente makes it a false friend. - mediterrunio, Oct 28, 2010

I've never used "Relativos" to mean "parientes"...never, but other than that it has the same meaning... as in "la teoría de la relatividad" "the theory of relativity"
