Only a remark. Just as you can shorten it in English to "thread a needle", you can also shorten it in Spanish to "enhebrar una aguja" - bill1111, Oct 28, 2010

Conseguir el dinero es como cavar con una aguja. Gastarlo es como el agua penetrar en la arena.

Edit: (thanks to Tony)

Conseguir dinero es como cavar con una aguja, gastarlo es como agua penetrando en la arena.

Getting money is like digging with a needle. Spending it is like water soaking into the sand. alt text

Correct, though in order to make a full sentence you need to add a verb: "Es como encontrar una aguja.." - bill1111, Oct 28, 2010
darn it, I had Es to begin with... lol - lprzybil, Oct 28, 2010

Did you mean "needles are more important than medicines to cure disease?" If so, I would say: "Según la acupuntura, lo importante para curar enfermedades son las agujas, no las medicinas" - bill1111, Oct 28, 2010

"...y me dijo, 'No necesitas tener miedo. Con esta pequeña aguja no sentirás nada.' "

"y me dijo" "con este pequeña aguja no sentirás nada". "pequeña" put after "aguja" means literally a small needle. If you put it in front of "aguja", it adquires a subjective meaning, which in this case is ironic. - bill1111, Oct 28, 2010
As for the "no te sentirás nada", it's incorrect because "sentir(se)" is used with adjectives or adverbs (like 'cansado', 'mal', 'hambriento') not nouns (like 'cansancio', 'malestar', 'hambre', or 'nada') - bill1111, Oct 28, 2010
Iin my original, I had "pequeña" after "aguja"...so was that correct? - DR1960, Oct 28, 2010
Billsport, Thanks for the feedback. - DR1960, Oct 28, 2010
No :p . If you say "esta aguja pequeña", it means you are trying to be objective and that you mean to say that the needle as "small". To convey the subjectivity (and the irony) of the original sentence, you need to say "con esta pequeña aguja". - bill1111, Oct 28, 2010

The eagle, following its prey, drew a line in the evening sky -- like a needle pulling thread.

El águila, tras su presa, trazó una línea en el cielo por la noche - como un aguja tirando del hilo.

I'm not too big on knitting, but if "a needle pulling thread" isn't an idiom and it means just that, like a needle pulling a thread, the translation is "como una aguja tirando del hilo". Big *if* though :) - bill1111, Oct 28, 2010
This isn't an idiom. I was trying to use two words that seem similar to me "aguila" and "aguja" while trying to be poetic. Maybe it didn't work. Thanks for the correction. - JoyceM, Oct 28, 2010

It's good, but the adjective "preciosa" already means "very beautiful", so that "muy" is overkill. Also, "raro" has a higher degree of rareness than "unusual". A closer translation is "inusual" or even better, "fuera de lo común". - bill1111, Oct 28, 2010
I'd change it to this: "son preciosas y fuera de lo común". - bill1111, Oct 28, 2010
