Exercise in American slang---Chuck #3

Our friend Chuck has a new problem today, and he'd love to share it with you. Please post your best translation and I will come by and highlight the words that need a bit more work. In a few days our resident snob Gekkosan will come by and render a translation in perfect "snob English". Have fun!

Hi there. Me again. So, I gave the doc a jingle today. "Wassup?", he asked. "My dogs are barking," I told him. "That's a long way from the heart," he told me. "Get a little TLC and you'll be as good as new."

So I waited for my better half to get home from the coal mine, gave her my best hangdog face and said, "My dogs are barking" She looked at me and said, "You're just trying to get out of doing the stuff on your honeydo list." No sympathy there.

So there was no one left to talk to but the pooches. "My dogs are barking. I'm just going to put you out in the back yard." So I did.

A few minutes later I get a blast from my neighbor, who screamed at me from the other end of the line, "Your dogs are barking!"

smile Hi!!

Yeah, this time I admit being totally baffled. If I had not seen Heidita's answer, I would believe, certainly, that "my dogs are barking" = Chuck's guts are roaring because he's hungry. I think it's better that I build over the hypothesis of the "feet pain".

Hi everyone, me again!

Today I phoned the doctor, who asked me what was happening. -My feet hurt, I said. -Honestly, you've walked a good way, he said, -with a little of your girlfriend's love you will get much better.

So I waited for my girlfriend and when she came at home from work, I looked at her, slaughtered lamb-faced, and I said to her,- Honey, I feel a lot of pain in my feet. -She glared at me saying, - well, you're trying to take flight of household work, aren't you? No way, don't count on my sympathy.

I had not more option, but to look for the understanding and companionship of my puppies. As my feet hurt,-I said to them- I'll just get you out in the backyard.

A while later, my neighbour was calling me outraged, shouting -Hey, your dogs are barking!

Good thing you went with Heidita's direction instead of your own first impression, although neither of you have yet gotten the meaning of "it's a long way from the heart" - Echoline, Oct 27, 2010

Hi there. It's me again. So, I gave the doctor a ring today. "What is the matter?", he asked. " My feet hurt," I told him. "That's a long way from the heart," he told me. "Get a little TLC (???big surprise )and you'll be as good as new."

So I waited for my wife to get home from work, gave her my best "poor me" face and said, "My feet hurt". She looked at me and said, "You're just trying to get out of doing what you must do/your household chores" No sympathy there.

So there was no one left to talk to but the dogs. "My feet hurt so I'm just going to put you out in the back yard." So I did.

A few minutes later I get call from my neighbour (raspberry, jeje) , who screamed at me from the other end of the line, "Your dogs are barking!"

Very funny and instructive, Echo, this is great, I had no idea what dogs are barking meant, that is poor cockney, wonderful! LOL

And no idea : TLC?? Must be some kind of brand?

Nope, T L C isn't a brand, but I don't want to "step on Cathy's toes", since this is her thread, I'll let her let the cat out of the bag... - amykay, Oct 27, 2010
TLC any American would know, but I have to admit I didn't know "my dog's are barking" until I saw your answer. - Stadt, Oct 27, 2010
Very, very good Heidita!! Do you want to translate "a long way from the heart"? I'll tell you what TLC is when cogu and the others have tried...but great work!!! - Echoline, Oct 27, 2010
wow, not too shabby! besos - Jason7R, Oct 27, 2010
You did a pretty good job on that one. I am waiting to hear why the neighbour thinks the dogs are barking. - Leeh, Oct 27, 2010
