you can find some other equivalents in a given context, since it´s a very common worldwide behaviour. 
One could be: serruchar el piso
clavar un cuchillo en la espalda
hacer una zancadilla
tirar de la alfombra

It is, and it's used very often. Other similar idiom is "dar una puñalada trapera", though I'm not sure that one is known outside Spain. - bill1111, Oct 27, 2010
