Both mean stove, but what is the difference?

It's regional. In Mexico una estufa can be a cooking stove. I think most other places use cocina, which can be confusing because that also means kitchen.

"Cocina (eléctrica)" is where you cook things (the whole appliance including the 3-4 stoves, not each individual stove). "Estufa" means heater, like the ones you use to heat the house during winter.

In English we would say "burners" instead of stoves. The stove is the whole appliance, which includes the oven. If it's just the burners, it's called a "range". - KevinB, Oct 25, 2010
