Los platos tendrán que esperar.

The dishes have to wait.

"tienen que esperar". However it is more common to use other tenses: "Los platos tendrán que esperar" or "Los platos van a tener que esperar". - bill1111, Oct 23, 2010
Duh on the que - I was supposed to know that! Thanks, - revmaf, Oct 23, 2010

Alfredo’s mother is a little cheap.

To save money, she washes the dishes and her son at the same time.

"es un poco tacaña. Para ahorrar dinero lava los platos y a su hijo al mismo tiempo". The second part of the sentence is not a subordinate clause, so it doesn't need the conjunction. - bill1111, Oct 23, 2010
Gracias Billstpor...again, again! - Rolest, Oct 23, 2010

It's safer here than in the pool grin

If you mended the dishwasher, I wouldn't have to do the washing up like this.

you can also say "Si reparases el lavavajillas,.. " - bill1111, Oct 23, 2010
:) Thank you - I'm very out of practice on this :) - sheila-foster, Oct 23, 2010

You wouldn't say "salpicadura, salpicadura" here. It sounds worse than "splattering, splattering". You are not using a noun here, but an onomatopoeia. - lazarus1907, Oct 23, 2010
Thanks, any suggestions as to what word would work here? There is nothing in the dictionary. :) - Brynleigh, Oct 23, 2010
"plas, plas" is the only thing that comes to mind, but that is also used as an onomatopoeia of clapping. - bill1111, Oct 23, 2010
thanks, I also found plas in a children's reader and so I guess it works :) - Brynleigh, Oct 23, 2010
Interesting song, Brynleigh..... - sanlee, Oct 23, 2010

Enjoy this - I can't do this forever!

I might be wrong here, but I don't think that even in latin america they would address a baby as "usted". I'd say: "Disfruta de esto: no podré hacer esto siempre" - bill1111, Oct 23, 2010
Thank you Billstpor. I actually meant this to be in reverse...I meant for it to be the baby talking to its parents - he is telling them to enjoy bathing him in the sink, because he won't be able to fit in the sink forever... - 001a2987, Oct 23, 2010

Just don't drain the sink, I will clog the pipe!

I don't think I understand the English sentence. If it was a typo and you meant "it will clog..", then I'd say: ¡Eso sí, no vacíes el fregadero que me vas a atascar la cañería! - bill1111, Oct 23, 2010

Now I know what happens when you play with the food...
