Piso is more commonly used for the actual floor, as in a building or within a room, and suelo more for the ground...hope that helps..

It doesn't matter what it's made of, a floor can be called Piso or Suelo. You can then add Laminado, de azulejo, de madera, etc. as the adjective to describe the material.

It can only be Piso when referring to the level or story of a building, ie: "El séptimo piso." "The seventh floor."
