Adjectives and nouns
When is it appropriate or necessary to place an adjective in front of a noun? I am a little confused on this topic.

I would add to that article that in some cases the two different placements of the adjective can mean exactly the same, and sometimes the alternative word order (adjective+noun) is the only one used in practice, or at least the most used one.
For example, when you use adjectives like "bueno", "malo".. it's pretty common to put the adjective in front of the noun, with no apparent change in its meaning: "Un mal día lo tiene cualquiera" or "Un día malo lo tiene cualquiera".
