"What is the approriate place to use the term "asi que en lugar de eso". I know it means "in place of that" but it cant be literally translated. Can someone clarify its use and translation for me please. Thanks

you can use that phrase as a connector, in a cause-consequence sequence.

Fui a buscar leña y no había, así que en lugar de eso compré carbón.

"Así que" = so

"así que en lugar de eso" = so in place of that....
