Does anybody know the correct term for "yard" when refering to an area of land used for a special purpose or business? e.g. freight yard.

I don't know about Mexico or south america, but I've never used "patio" for anything except school yards, prison yards, or theater seating areas (patio de butacas).

I'd call an area of land for a generic purpose a "terreno" or "superficie", and a freight yard a "superficie de almacenamiento".

For what country? I think they use patio in Mexico, but not in South America.
