If you have to guess, go with "por" -- it's used in more situations than "para". I read this advice elsewhere, but is sounds about right.

Maybe from me, because I keep saying that all the time. "Por" is used about 60% - 65% of the time (or 50%-75% more often than "para") - lazarus1907, Oct 19, 2010
