Traveling to Cuba

Question

I'm going to Cuba in May and am wondering if the Spanish learned here will be enough to get by with in Cuba?

You will have a wonderful time in Cuba. I have vacationed there and I had no problem communicating with the residents of Cuba. If I wanted to be certain my requests for things like towels or soap were understood, I left a written note in the room. The staff was very kind and cheerful and did whatever they could to make us comfortable. There were two small children in our group and they were treated with kindness and patience. Both children are still talking about that trip and the four year old is telling her mom that she is not going to Disney World, as planned, at Christmas. She only wants to go back to Cuba! The children know a little Spanish and they were not shy about using the words they know. The Cuban people were delighted with the children's efforts. Have a terrific trip.

I don't think there would be any restrictions at all. Going through customs there was much faster than it wass here at home. - Brynleigh, Oct 19, 2010

I am not sure how proficient you are , my Spanish would not get me past customs ,

I could try ,Soy un socialista , dónde está el presidente? ,

But welcome to the foro, I am sure a more well informed and less stupid member

will give you good advice , they are thick on the ground.And very nice too.

Like any Spanish speaking country, they have (with regard to the language) their similarities and their differences (and the former considerably outweigh the latter).
