How do you use A ver?

My lesson book is explaining verb usages for "to find out" and the example they give is a little unclear so could someone please help me out?

The situation is 2 friends walking down the street and spotting an eatery and one asks the other if this is a good place to eat and the other friend says "Wait a sec, I will find out." As she is walking towards the window she says "Averiguemos" which means "Let's find out" and then he wrote "or you could use A ver which is more common". Then he wrote a sentence "Vamos a ver qué de comer en este restaurante." which means "Let's see what kind of food this restaurant has."

Now my question is:
Can you use "A ver" alone or do you need to use "Vamos a ver"? Why does que have an accent when this is not a question in my text book?

Gracias

From samdie's answer, I guess the author needs better proofreaders - foxluv, Oct 18, 2010

"a ver" is fine by itself (in conversation) and pretty much equivalent to "Let's see.".

"Vamos a ver qué de comer en este restaurante."

should be "Vamos a ver qué hay de comer en este restaurante."

'qué' (with the tilde) because it's an indirect interrogative. (it answers the question "¿Qué hay de comer en este restaurante?"

Yes, either "qué hay de comer.." or "qué tal dan de comer". - bill1111, Oct 18, 2010
