I am having a difficult time trying to understand lesson 2.7. I am not fully understanding how to use the verb predicates. Is there a way to help understand in a simpler form? grin please and thank you

Are you confused because because the two words you quoted, "fue and fuiste", both can mean "you" or because both these words have different meanings in the past tense relating to the verbs "ser and ir".

Can you supply English examples of what you wish to translate.

This is almost the complete conjugation for SER and IR in the preterite (past) tense.

Keep in mind, this is two verbs (SER and IR) sharing the same conjugation, which is really strange.

Fui = I went / was

Fuiste = You (tú) went / were

Fue = He / she / it / you (usted) went / was / were

Fuimos = We went / were

Fueron = They / you all (ustedes) went / were

Fue and fuiste are either SER or IR in the preterite tense (past tense). Fue is 3rd person singular (or, 2nd person formal...that is, usted). Fuiste is the tú form (2nd person informal).

Fue and fuiste can mean either "was/were" (SER) or "went" or "did go" (IR) depending on context.

Ayer fuiste rubio = Yesterday, you were a blonde.

¿Fuiste al parque? = Did you go to the park?

Sí, fui al parque. = Yes, I went to the park.

Ayer, fue rubio = Yesterday, he / she / you was/were a blonde. (You as in usted, not as in tú)

¿Fue al parque? = Did he / she / you go to the park?

Sí, fue al parque. = Yes, he / she / you went to the park.
