To Be On A Particular Side (Political)

Currently learning about the Government etc. La izquierda y la derecha. Problem is that I'm trying to say:

It depends on which side you are on.

Depende de qué lado estás.

Just doesn't look right to me.

Anybody have corrections. Thank you.

You can say "Depende de qué lado estás," but it should be in subjunctive ie: "Todo depende de qué lado estés.

"ser partidario de" - to be on the side of [a political party or philosophy].

"Depende de quién eres partidario."

Hey, I'd say: "Depende de cual partido tomas."

I think this kind of side is said "partido"

Yes, "tomar partido" means "to pick a side", although I'm guessing that "de cual partido tomas" is a latin american way of saying that. In Spain we'd say "Depende de por quién tomes partido" - bill1111, Oct 17, 2010

"Depende de qué lado estés" sounds like you've been told to pick a side in an argument. Not that it couldn't be used, but when talking about politics I'd prefer to say: "Depende de por qué lado te decantes" or "Depende de a qué lado apoyes".
