Hmmmm, the whole sentence is: Tiene la prensa demasiado poder? - Con certeza. Especialmente en cuanto al alamismo y su poder to make or break politicos y celebridades

In this case I would say "de hacer la fortuna o la ruina de"

It depends on context. As a set phrase, it is "lograrlo o morir" which translates to "do or die", but when used as an adjective, it is often "clave" which translates to "key".

"alamismo" is a typo, it's probably "alarmismo". - bill1111, Oct 17, 2010

There's a variety of possible translations for this expression in Spanish, especially for the "break" part. I'll write just a few:

"para encumbrar/aupar/crear o enterrar/destruir/defenestrar/demoler"
